Products
Yes, we are cruelty-free. We never test our products or ingredients on animals. We do test finished products on our founders and consenting humans.
Soothe Operator cleanser and Balancing Act serum are both vegan.
Yes, our products are paraben-free, but not because we think they are unsafe. In fact, parabens have been repeatedly proven to be safe in cosmetic formulas. We decided to formulate with other preservatives that meet the Sephora/Ulta/Credo clean standards until further notice because right now the market demands it. And as a business, we need to pick our battles.
Yes, all our formulas are free of synthetic and natural fragrances (including essential oils). We formulate to create effective products that feel great, and don’t formulate to scent.
Our products are manufactured in the United States. We source the very best ingredients from reputable suppliers around the world.
[Deep sigh] The inevitable question..let’s talk about it. “Clean” is not an FDA regulated term. Each brand has their own spin on what they mean by “clean beauty” as there is no standard definition. So, we find the term not necessarily informative. At Cool as a Cucumber, we are against fear mongering to sell products. Instead, we believe in giving full transparency to our customers so you get to make the best choices for yourself.
Here’s what we deeply care about: formulating thoughtfully, using the best ingredients at doses that are clinically proven to be effective, adhering to the highest manufacturing and testing standards to ensure the safety and efficacy of our products.
You can learn more about the ingredients we formulate with on the product pages.
Yes, all our products go through rigorous safety testing before you can buy them. Here are three things we do:
On our formulations and products, we go beyond the FDA requirements and follow EU regulations for stability and compatibility testing. We also follow Good Manufacturing Practices - GMP requires that every batch of cosmetic product is tested for microbiological, physical and chemical properties to ensure safety and quality. Our products undergo preservative efficacy testing (PET), also known as challenge test, and Human Repeat Insult Patch Test (HRIPT).
On our ingredients, we use clinical data from third party labs that tells us the clinically effective doses of key ingredients. This way we can make sure that our formulas actually deliver the benefits they claim to your skin.
We work with dermatologist advisors, acne specialist aestheticians, a stellar team of expert chemists, and quality controllers to ensure all our products are safe and efficacious for acne-prone adults.
Our product pages have a lot of info about what each product is specifically formulated to address. If you have questions or need additional guidance, send us a note at hi@becoolasacucumber.com. We love talking about building a good routine! We’d love to help you reach your personal skin goals any way we can!
All of our products have a shelf life of 2 years, 1 year after opening.
We currently don’t have samples. Our product pages are detailed to make your purchase decision as easy as possible. Even so, we understand it’s hard to get a feel for a product before it’s in your hands. If you’re not fully happy with your product, we will happily accept your return.
Soothe Operator cleanser is safe to use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. Balancing Act serum has 0.5% Salicylic Acid, which is an ingredient not recommended to use during pregnancy. However, some doctors may feel comfortable with it due to the low dosage in the formula. Please always consult your doctor.
